Re: Best pandemic project ever!

Haha! That's awesome. I hope Mikael shares the results with us (starved for non-virus information as we are)!

Re: Solo rides

Yes, we miss our buddies. Yes, solo riding is quickly losing its appeal (I speak for myself here...I'm hanging in but it's way less fun all alone). Yes, rules really suck, especially when "we are healthy" and we (believe we) understand the risks and aren't taking any (barely). But, really, at this p...

Re: Spring Kit Order Open!

Just thought I'd bump this as the order deadline is tomorrow (assuming that hasn't changed).

Online retail therapy is also one of my coping mechanisms :)

Wow, Mark. That's very brave of you! Maybe I'll muster up the courage to reciprocate. Although my 90s hair has nothing on yours!

Keep-sane-during-coronavirus list

Sometimes I wonder how to keep sane right now...to not let all the weirdness overwhelm. Regular reminders of the good things helps me, so I thought I'd share my personal keep-sane list. It's sort of my mantra and so far, it seems to help. Maybe others will want to add to it, too. I hope that by shar...

Re: March 15 Gravel ride

Steve and I are in, too. Since you have said you're open to other route options, Ron, I'm going to suggest a few tweaks: - instead of Trillium, take the highway trail, Phelps, Belamy and "Scafe Hill Loop Trail" (all are wide double-track types -- it's basically a circumnavigation of Stewart Mtn) to ...

Figbug site has the city blanketed in zeros and the gale is still blowing so I'll bow out. Stay safe, kids, if still going!

Re: March 14 - Big Terra Nova Clockwise Loop

I love that, after 85k and untold hours in the saddle, the route ends with technical Thetis singletrack. What could possibly go wrong? :D With travel plans reworking themselves, I may be able to come out for at least part of this ride. Don't wait for me, though. I know where/when to show up if it wo...

Re: Friday the 13th, no more than 250 ppl

I was actually going to do the road ride (I am SO enjoying my summer bike) but with a forecast of 2 degrees (WTF! Is this March in Victoria, or what??) and rain...yuck. I'll hide in the trees and JT's bushes with you guys, too. No loogies or urine, though, please. Happy to lead a group if two groups...

Re: 50 delights of riding your bike

Yes! These are great. Almost every one made me smile and nod in agreement. Some darn near choked me up. There are more, of course (and folks have added some goodies in the comments) but it's a great collection to give us warm fuzzies about our chosen activity. Getting back from your ride just before...

March 29 advance planning gnarly pseudo-MTB ride

Cause I love planning, riding on dirt, doing things that are unusual/inappropriate (a gravel bike on black-diamond MTB trails - woof!) and having fun things to look forward to... I'm giving advance notice that I'm scheming up something gnarly for Sunday the 29th (the next free Sunday I have -- don't...

Ronny, put in a new tube, and I’ll bring one tomorrow if you don’t have one 🙃.
Maybe that's an inside joke, but Ron runs tubeless (right?)... (as all self-respecting off-roadies ought to :D )

Re: Friday, March 6 - Off-Road Bicycle Ride

I'd like to suit up in knobbies tomorrow and offer to lead a "slightly quicker and less stoppy" group. Maybe something (pace-wise) like this really fun one with Rob, Mark and Ben.

Re: Steve Lund again:)

Maybe I'm more nerdy than some but I watched the whole 12 minutes of the GCN video. I actually prefer the gal (Manon)'s technique of basically "free-handing" the GCN logo over a map of the city and just going for it. The guy's calculated (and assisted by a somewhat experienced Strava artist) approac...

Re: Sunday Feb 23 (shorter)

Thanks, Martin. I think I have a good track record for being an overall reliable and faithful group ride attendee/leader for the past five years. I fumbled this one (and in so doing f***ed up the start to my birthday...dang) but hopefully a misguided "safety" call won't deter others from including m...

Re: Sunday Feb 23 (shorter)

Rob, I'm really sorry if you went out to meet me and found yourself stood up. That sucks and I am really disappointed to cancel. I was pressured to commit last night when I didn't know what the conditions would be. I was all in for this ride. Temps below zero surprised (and scared) me. Sorry....

Sorry, it's a bit later than I said I'd do this but the weather is crap and quite possibly the roads are icy. Riding is fun. Falling is not!

Go back to bed. :)

Re: Sunday Feb 23 (shorter)

I'll likely modify the route to shorten and flatten where possible (just a little). But Hartland Ave is non-negotiable as it's the most direct route to Shock Treatment. Apologies to any nonclimbers!
