Helmet safety ratings

I recently have seen several articles on the web re bike helmet safety ratings. Do they prevent concussions? Here is a summary: - approved helmets will lower the risk of skull fractures and (road rash). -it is unproven whether helmets prevent concussions but some more recent testing shows certain mo...

Re: 3 Ferry Ride - Let's do it!

I would be interested in a weekday ride. It could be my one day summer vacation for 2020.

"free" Zwift alternative.

If you want a break from Zwift, Cycling BC has arranged a free 4 week trial of Fulgaz. Solo rides only but hundreds of locations (several local rides) are available.

Re: Virtual training options

I have been happily using Fulgaz with a smart trainer over the last year. Only solo rides are possible but several hundred rides (with a few Victoria area) are available. It will also kind of work with a regular trainer without any sensors at all. The video will run at the originally recorded speed ...

Re: We all need a laugh today....and this one is pretty funny....

The airbag helmet idea needs a little work. Standard helmets do not offer enough protection from concussions. The problem with the fabric of the airbag is that it will catch on the pavement (like the "foam in a mesh" helmets of yesteryear) and transmit too much rotational force to the wearer. A very...

Re: covid-19 and group rides

If you have a trainer, speed sensor, and cadence sensor there are at least a dozen platforms ofering virtual rides such as Zwift and FulGaz. A power meter or smart trainer is not needed for many.

Continental GP 5000 TL tires 700x 25

2 Fast tubeless tires 700 x 25 Tried fitting one to my new rims but not even close to being mountable. Ordered tires before rims- the wrong order as it turns out. Never used or mounted, come with sealant. $109 at Mec (per tire) $60 at Wiggle I’ll sell them for $55 (each) Check if your rims are compa...

Re: Fairfield Starbucks

How about the Fort and Foul Bay Starbucks? I would also suggest a trial of 2 groups- A and B along the waterfront with C following the Friday route through Mt. Doug park converging at Mattick's farm. Both groups could mix and merge for the second half of the ride.

Flat on Sunday C ride

Thanks to the group for helping with the tube change after my flat. I noticed my spare tube was still in my repair kit when checking at home. So either the bad tube was magically fixed (still holding air on Monday) or I ended with with someone else’s tube. Please let me know if you are missing a tub...

Re: displaying number plates and bike racks

I spoke with a Constable at the Saanich police station regarding license plates and bike carriers. He mentioned it was up to the discretion of the officer whether to issue a ticket for an obscured license plate. He mentioned the plate must be carried in the location provided by the vehicle manufactu...

Re: Atrial FIb and Masters Athletes

Due to the snow day I had a bit of time for some research. I was able to find many studies on risk factors for atrial fibrillation but very few on prevention other than avoiding the risk factors such as being overweight, diabetic etc.) Here is a summary of additional atrial fibrillation prevention m...

Re: Silly Solstice Ride

Perhaps the less fast riders could do shorter pulls avoiding being on the front going up the "little" hill (that seems to get larger) on Douglas St. leading to the park entrance. 30- 32 the rest of the time shouldn't be a problem.

I found this article re. frost/ dew formation. Explains why the Selkirk trestle is frosty on the way home from the ride but not the paved Lochside trail.

Springy B ride (not the weather)

The Friday B ride seems more "springy" that usual. Going down Mt Doug X- Road I was in the second row rapidly overtaking the leader. I elected to slow down (too quickly) and in retrospect that could have caused a pileup. A hand signal seemed ill advised as we were going at least 40 kph. What is best...

Tuesday ride and road work

The intersection of Henderson and Cedat hill X-R is torn up with paving and road work. A flag person was on Duty at 4.45 Monday so a detour (? Switch to ring road) may be needed on July 8 morning.

How is this idea:
Everyone starts at the same time with several larger groups similar to the Thursday TT but whenever the groups meet riders could transfer to a quicker or less quick group? Could make keeping track of laps interesting!
