I hear CO2 leaks out even faster in that rare eventuality that you're trying to repair your flat with a pre-flatted tube. But think of the biceps you'd be building by trying to pump up that baby by hand....

Bike film "Veer" is back in town...

For those who missed it the first time, I received this note from the folks at Roads, Rails & Trails --announcing a showing of the bike film Veer at UVIC on March 19th, 7pm. Hello: Victoria is Canada's Biking Capital, and bike use and facilities continue to grow each year. This will invite you to se...

Will you take a "painting" from me too? I was there on that ride but was not, repeat, was not involved in any way, shape or form. I'll kick in some to help take the sting out of the insurance bill.

Stolen bike arrives home, at last

Just a word to those who may have had a bike stolen recently, you might want to start checking out Kilshaw's Auctioneers periodically. I stopped there on my way home from downtown today to discover my 20 year old Cannondale ready for the auction block. It was stolen from my backyard last June. Seems...

Oooh, the slagging continues. I'll have you know Pete my wife and I rode our first tandem from where we bought it in Halifax to Victoria (more than 6,000 kilometers) without a single accident or mishap and I was totally in control. One thing newbies on tandems need to know is that there are two posi...

If there are any tandem wannabees out there, now is the time to do your patriotic duty and do your part to stimulate the economy by going out and buying one.

This is a Burley, similar to my own, and a steal at $2200.

I've actually got two tandems, (makes up for the fact some of my bikes only have one wheel!) and would be happy to lend the extra tandem to any couple that wants to give it a try. I know Chris Watt was showing some tandem interest, so we should also shanghai him for a Triple Shot Tandem Sunday. Any ...

Count me in too. But speaking of Easter, which makes me think of rabbits, I just want to remind the rest of the team that today on our ride I ran over a rabbit. He zigged, then zagged and I tried to miss him but ended up going over him with my front wheel. He felt like a furry little speedbump. I th...

Alan's "IDEAS" on Cancer Screening.

Finally, my new radio documentary is going to air, this Thursday, February 12th at 9:05pm on CBC radio one (90.5 FM in Victoria). The world of cancer screening is the target in this two part series. I've pasted the blurb below from the CBC IDEAS website. They will podcast the documentary and stream ...

Five of us 'hard' men (or rather frosty men) of winter went out this morning. (Norm, Dillan, Pete, Eric and I) We did a modified Friday ride--up Shelbourne to the park and then back along the water. There were some slippery bits, but we took it easy and there were no spills. Eric showed some serious...

I guess one of the first things we need to do is decide who's going to try to do it in one day, and who would like to take 2 days. I see advantages in both approaches but would lean towards the longer one day ride, maybe meeting up with the 2-dayers as we take a day to sightsee and recover. Maybe ca...

I called the Saanich Municipal hall to rant about the pothole. I thought of lying and telling them I was a lawyer in order to get speedier service, but they got back to me right away to say that the killer pothole in question is in Oak Bay, but they went out and fixed it anyways. Apparently I wasn't...

The pothole he hit was right near the corner of cedar hill X and Gordon Head Road. It was full of water too, so understandable that he didn't see it in time. I took him to the Emergency room and managed to get him out of his cycling jacket before the evil Emerg Nurse took the scissors to him. I don'...

I'm in. The only hiccup (other than the ones following the night of drinking) is the lack of a post-ride coffee shop. Is anything open on New Years Day? We may have to crash someone's house who has an expresso machine and the will to use it.

I'd say John may be downplaying things somewhat--it was dangerous out there on Sunday. Though things close to the water are fine, there is the occasional icy drift that creeps partway across the road in places. (reminiscent of piles of leaves). And the icy Blenkinsop is definitely a road to be avoid...

I'm in. Only to see if Pete Legless shows up with his can of blue paint and willingness to buy coffee. By the way, Pete, I find it's always a good shield to show up in person to avoid getting slagged by your cycling buddies for your no-showiness. Better memorize the lyrics to "Paradise by the Dashbo...

Let's both show up anyways--I reckon the snowfall blast we're due tonight will keep some of the ice-wimps at home. I'll ride my coummuter bike down there and if we do get bumped,...
