Re: July 24 Vancouver Triple Crown

Thanks Barton!!! Looks fantastic but it will be quite the ride and a long day on the road. Very excited despite the 4400m/14500ft of climbing in less than a 100 miles.

Re: Pickle Juice!

I'm squarely in the push till cramp category. Last year I cramped so hard to literally fall off the bike 175km into the BLR after a 31km/hr punishment to Port Renfrew and beyond. Also cramped hard on a truly forgettable Tour of Victoria in 2015. Rode smarter this year (ie slower) and survived 7-10hr...

Re: Tour de Victoria August 21

Hi Barton, Don't think of it as a race but a really fast group ride with a few hundred other people. Such an exciting and surreal experience to roll down Gorge road taking the whole lane at 40km/hr in a big pack. Keep out of trouble early and pick a good pacing group and it's about as fun as it gets...

Re: The ideal cycling backpack?

I would also suggest buying locally with the added bonus of specialized and very experienced staff at Robinson's.Try on a few and pick the best fit & features and you won't be disappointed after many painful commutes. If you're a complete frugal nut like myself who is under an extreme self induced f...

Re: Vancouver Triple Crown?

If we ride out to Seymour first then we would be commuting through the early day traffic, definitely my preference to avoid the busy roads.

Re: Ride report: Gran Fondo Leavenworth 2016

Suddenly I felt the urge to hammer. Hammering made the cramps go away, and I made good time back to the finish. Somehow this will be my new go to riding technique whenever I'm in trouble. How could it possibly fail? Great account of the riding experience. Thanks for the laughs (resenting walkers lo...

Re: Vancouver Triple Crown?

I'm in for July 24th if that's an option on the table. Having ridden a few Nanaimo departure cycling trips I would highly recommend the 6:20am ferry time. Far less traffic to start riding and much cooler climbing Cypress first thing in the morning. When Barton and I went up it was already quite warm...

Re: Request from the Oak Bay Police regarding our Tuesday ri

Thanks for posting Andrew. I was near the back of the group and chased for the entire length of Henderson at 40+ km/hr and still did not reach the lead riders. About 6 people were dropped as we slowed through the Henderson corner. As always please have a look back after a corner to ensure everyone g...

Our weekly Moka House rest spot at Shoal Point is almost always up to the challenge of 20+ coffees. I would love if a proper bakery opened up next door but its nice to know your patronage will be gracefully received and welcomed. I think their MS says it all. Re: Strava Giro 21000m challenge

7 Mount Doug climbs easily covers 1000+ meters, with roughly 150m elevation gain from the lower to upper parking areas. My average over 10 slowly ridden laps was under 15 min per loop or about 1hr 45min for the 7. You will probably have enough to skip the last day of repeats after 20 days. https://w...

There's always this: https://www.strava.com/activities/441806855 Martin 4K of climbing over 90km distance sounds pretty rough - so when do we go? 8) Highway 20 out of Bella Coola looks like an interesting option before it gets paved, http://www.timescolonist.com/news/b-c/highway-20-s-narrow-road-to...

Re: May 1 Big Gravel

Thanks to both Blair and Martin for posting their respective accounts of the ride. With all the talk of hardship, preparation and routes, it should be noted that for several hours on end there is nothing but the wonderful sound of gravel under tires and nothing else but local nature in the backgroun...

Re: Leechtown Sunday?

Hi Martin,

Too busy this weekend but how about in two weeks time, Sunday May 1st? I would also be interested in a 6am departure especially considering the given distance but I'm good for the ride regardless.

Cheers,

Kenji

Hi Martin,

Are we good to for one vehicle or do I need to meet you guys at Alpha with my car just in case? And to confirm a 6am meeting time at SB?

Thanks,

Re: Ideal Winter Bike?

Although carbon is nice for ride quality and weight, winter bike durability seems more important simply because you're far more likely to have a fall in the wet weather (says the guy riding a carbon bike and crashing twice this year). Beyond that there are a ton of all road or endurance bikes from a...

Re: Wanted: 51-52cm road bike(s)

Hi Claire, Thought this was a great deal for $800, maybe they're willing to negotiate a bit. Quoted as 44cm but that is probably a seat tube measurement. I would do a top tube check to get the real deal. Ultegra 10 and solid Mavic Elite wheels. Even has Conti gatorskin tires mounted. http://www.used...
