Hot off the press, this is a good review of the subject which was discussed on this forum a little while ago:

Due to the snow day I had a bit of time for some research. I was able to find many studies on risk factors for atrial fibrillation but very few on prevention other than avoiding the risk factors such as being overweight, diabetic etc.)

Here is a summary of additional atrial fibrillation prevention measures:

-regular exercise (live longer but high intensity activities increase the AF risk)
-Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra virgin olive oil
-could not find any mention of coffee abstinence (coffee drinkers are at higher risk but how much coffee is risky?)

Sooooo, attempting to follow an ultra-marathoner on a 100K+ gravel adventure in sub-zero, snowy conditions with over 2,000m climbing wasn’t listed as a risk factor to avoid?

Good stuff! :)

I’m lying in bed in cardiac short stay and reading this post-ablation. We can all have a sample size of one to look at percent success rates of treatment.
